Receiving a foreign currency payment on Revolut Business: how much does it really cost (and how to pay less)

Banknotes of several international currencies

Revolut Business appeals to many companies working internationally, and for good reason: you can hold dozens of currencies and convert at the interbank rate. But this "real rate" has its limits, and they arrive quickly as soon as your volumes grow.

A true multi-currency account

Unlike euro-only neobanks, Revolut Business allows you to receive and hold CHF, USD, or GBP. You choose when to convert. This is a real advantage for an SME that collects and pays in the same currency.

Where the costs are hidden

  1. The exchange allowance at the interbank rate. Each plan includes a monthly limit (€1,000 on the Basic plan, more on higher plans). Beyond this, Revolut applies a 0.6% fee according to its online help.

  2. The weekend markup. According to Revolut's fee schedule, conversions made outside of market hours, particularly on weekends, are charged at 1%.

  3. Incoming transfers. Revolut specifies that different fees may apply to payments received, notably via SWIFT, not to mention the commissions of intermediary banks.

  4. The subscription. To raise the limit, you have to upgrade your plan: the fixed cost increases.

Numerical example

An SME on the Basic plan converts CHF 30,000 per month into euros. Beyond the first thousand euros, the 0.6% fee applies: approximately €185 per month, which is more than €2,000 per year. A conversion made on a Saturday on this amount would cost around €320.

How to pay less

  • Only convert on weekdays, never on weekends.

  • Adjust your plan to your actual volume, comparing the cost of the subscription to the fees saved.

  • Beyond a few tens of thousands of euros per month, bring in competition with a B2B foreign exchange specialist: negotiated rates, announced before each transaction.

  • If your receipts are predictable, secure the rate in advance. Revolut offers forward contracts charged at 0.8%: compare this cost with a negotiated hedge.

Revolut and OSolto: complementary

Revolut remains an excellent tool for daily use. OSolto steps in for your large currency flows: as an independent broker registered with ORIAS, we compare solutions from approved partner currency specialists, negotiate your terms, and set up currency hedging if needed, with a single point of contact.
